Kundalini/Kriya Tantra

What is Kundalini Tantra Shastra?

Kundalini is a well-known term in the context of spirituality and Yoga, but misconceptions about Kundalini-based practices make people apprehensive about how it works.

Kundalini Tantra (system) is a set of scientific practices to awaken the dormant energy coiled at the base of the spine in the Muladhara chakra. It is a dormant potential in every being that needs to be awakened to release the energy locked in the realm of matter and take it towards the highest level of consciousness.

When kundalini is unawakened, it is a potential energy. Once awakened, it becomes the kinetic force that enables total awakening and illumination. In the Yoga Shastras and Tantras, there are innumerable esoteric practices to awaken this force. Dakshin Marg Tantra employs mantras, sadhanas, Yoga, mudras, locks, and other satvik modalities. At the same time, the Vaammargis/Kaulachari Tanta system has adopted and successfully implemented a different set of practices.

Etymology of Tantra:

Tantra is composed of two words: Tantoti (Expansion) and trayati (Liberation). When the mind expands, energy is released from the clutches of matter and unites with the universal consciousness.

Energy, as the kundalini Shakti, also known as kula shakti, ascends from the lower energy centers, known as chakras, towards the highest point of awareness through the central passage called sushumna marga.

Tantra is a system intended to facilitate enlightenment for the practitioner; this word has been misappropriated to have only sexual references, which is grossly inaccurate and seriously undersells it, and in many ways taints it. Tantra is much more profound and will transform the practitioner completely in unimaginable ways. Immersing oneself in Tantra will result in a complete spiritual awakening. Our Modalities come from the yoga system and the Pure form of Tantra.

How does the system work in Kundalini Tantra:

  • Meditation on chakras with beej mantras, satvik visualization techniques, and mudras are all scientifically systematized.
  • Chakras are energy vortices located in the subtle body; each Chakra has a physical counterpart in terms of a gland.
  • Prana or vital energy is used to awaken the force through mental vigour and discipline.
  • The unblocking and balancing of chakras leads to the flow of energy through these glands and energy centers, helping eliminate many psychosomatic ailments.
  • There are eight primary chakras in the subtle body, from Mooladhara at the base of the spine to Swadhisthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddhi, Ajna, Bindu, and Sahasrara.
  • Whether you are a spiritual seeker or not, kundalini practices are highly effective in bringing balance and health, and in awakening creative energy. There are 11 divisions of Yoga.
