As we often use the word holistic, which, in a literal sense, means ‘as a whole’. A holistic approach is a collective approach in which an entire system is treated as a whole rather than as separate parts. Our bodies are intricate systems composed of multiple layers; one must be efficient and understand the subtle concepts of health. The brain-gut axis is a simple way to implement a holistic approach, in which the brain largely governs the gut and vice versa. A similar theory applies to the mind/emotions and pain: when the mind is in a high-stress state, the body feels it as various sensations and disorders.
